An Icon Worn Through Generations
Since its introduction, the Weejuns® penny loafer has moved far beyond its origins to become part of different cultural scenes. For decades, Weejuns have been adopted by Ivy Leaguers, embraced by Mods, and later worn by the Soul community. Our loafers have frequently found their place within music scenes and subcultures shaped by identity, rhythm, and personal style. The appeal of our loafers has never been trend-driven; it’s the timeless design and the ability to adapt. The hand-sewn craftsmanship doesn't just deliver long-lasting quality; it ensures the loafers are worn, softened, and shaped by real movement for a long time. They are designed to stand up to long nights on the dance floor. The Weejuns® loafer is a timeless icon; it proves that true style is always in motion. Together, G.H.BASS and Bristol Northern Soul Club celebrate living cultures and the importance of sharing history across generations.
The Bristol Northern Soul Club
Northern Soul is all about the music that you can’t stop moving to, the fast, rare American soul tracks from the ’60s and ’70s that DJs dug up and spun for the nights of dancing that made you lose track of time. It’s not about what’s hitting the charts, it’s about the rhythm, the irresistible beat and the magnetic energy. The Bristol Northern Soul Club carries that spirit forward with every movement. A passionate, tight-knit community of dancers, collectors, and music lovers who come together to not only celebrate the tracks, the moves, and the culture but also to pass those experiences on to new generations.
“Northern Soul is more than music or dance - it’s belonging. It’s where I’ve found freedom, confidence, and connection. When you step onto the floor, there’s no mask and no armour, just you and the music” – Levanna McLean, founder of Bristol Northern Soul Club.
The Go-to Shoes for the Bristol Northern Soul Club
G.H.BASS loafers have long been the go-to for the Bristol Northern Soul Club, helping to carry the memories forward. G.H.BASS loafers are meant to be worn, broken in, and carried through real life, just as Northern Soul itself is lived and passed on. Levanna describes her penny loafers as the “pièce de résistance” of her outfit.
“The loafers are always last… because once they’re on, you’re ready. The signature of my style and attitude.” – Levanna McLean, founder of Bristol Northern Soul Club.
A Short Film
G.H.BASS Archives EP.01 is a new short film created in collaboration with Bristol Northern Soul Club, celebrating Northern Soul as a living culture rooted in music, movement, and self-expression. The collaboration reflects the shared set of values between G.H.BASS and Northern Soul, a culture built from the ground up, sustained through dedication and a commitment to sharing knowledge, values, and tradition between generations. For decades, G.H.BASS loafers have been part of that rhythm, stepping onto dance floors. “These shoes carry those memories with you”, notes Levanna McLean
