Despite the current age of digital communications and ever-evolving technology, it seems nostalgic mediums continue to make comebacks and weave their way throughout modern art, culture and values. Take the vinyl revival, for example, or vintage cinematography techniques adopted throughout cult classics such as Call Me by Your Name, reflecting our yearning for soft imperfections that are so often absent within today’s digitally sound projections.

At G.H. Bass & Co., we fully celebrate our heritage and continue to seal this value within our loafers, creating an edge of timelessness whether you’re wearing our classic Bass Weejuns or adopting the Harris Tweed penny loafers.

We’re taking a closer look at how you can inject the retro revival into your wardrobe with G.H. Bass & Co. styles.

Style inspiration for Goodwood Revival

For over 20 years, Goodwood Revival has celebrated the 1940s through to the sixties, where style is every bit as important as the motorsports. Reflecting the time just before mass-produced fashion and footwear became mainstream, we expect to see the penny loafer making appearances on many a foot throughout the weekend.

Sartorial Chap, Liam Jeffries, does a stellar job of emulating the modern gentleman, whilst nodding to the vintage decades, in our wine leather Larson penny loafers.

Youth rebellion

The late fifties into sixties saw the birth of the teenager and subsets of youth culture (see our previous piece on mod culture), as young adults moved away from the sartorial confines of their parents to determine their individual style. Rachel Clifton’s modern monochrome ensemble, paired with earth suede penny loafers, is reminiscent of an era when conservative skirts were swapped for jeans, trousers or miniskirts, accessorised with berets and headbands, and almost has an Audrey Hepburn feel to it.

Harris Tweed

The original Harris Tweed has been embraced by designers, fashion houses and publications across the decades. Our brand new Harris Tweed penny loafers incorporate the unmistakable hand-woven artisan fabric with the craftsmanship of the Weejuns to create an instant, timeless icon.
