Our friends in London: the G.H. Bass guide to Soho
9th April 2018
As long-time residents of Beak Street, Soho, we’ve been lucky enough to make friends with so many original London brands who have just as much history and heritage as we do. With our Beak Street store event right around the corner, we thought we’d take a look at what it is that makes Soho so great, as well as introduce some of our guests of honour!
Undoubtedly one of our coolest friends, Bar Termini is something of an icon. Named after Rome’s main train station, Bar Termini brings a touch of 1950s Italian style to London. A favourite of the Bass team for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Bar Termini is open all day serving up a mix of pastries, paninis, small plates and, of course, a generous helping of traditional Italian coffee.
They don’t just offer classic food and drink, though. Bar Termini is also the place to be for foodie events throughout the year and stocks a whole range of merchandise, so you can emulate their signature style in your home.
We asked bar manager and Bass lover Robin a few questions about Bar Termini, Soho and, of course, his favourite G.H. Bass & Co. shoes.
Tell us a little more about the history of Bar Termini
We first opened the door to our Old Compton Street space in 2015. When I first started out, my aim was to share great coffee with our neighbours and spread the word about the Bar Termini brand. Since then, things have changed a little bit, and now our friends are sharing the unique Termini experience with their friends and family! We try to show every guest that the La Dolce Vita era is still alive and well today. Experience it for yourself at 7 Old Compton Street every day from 10am until late!
What’s your favourite thing about Soho?
Soho is definitely my favourite part of London. It’s the City’s centre of entertainment and people are always happy here! Whether you visit the theatres, cinemas, jazz clubs, pubs, restaurants, cocktail bars or unique shops, there are always positive Vibes 24/7. This is my favourite thing about Soho!
Any Soho hotspots you would recommend?
So many! Some of my favourites are The Toucan, Trisha’s, 10 Greek Street and, if you want something sweet, go for Maitre Choux – delicious.
How did you discover G.H. Bass & Co.?
I’m drawn to well-designed shops and bars; I saw the G.H. Bass & Co. store from the street and it just caught my eye. It’s a brilliant shop - small but with big charisma! Just like Termini, G.H. Bass & Co. do just one thing, but they do it right – I think this is the key to success!
What’s your favourite G.H. Bass & Co. shoe?
I love the Monogram Brogue. I wear them 10 hours per day at work and they are super comfortable. Keeping them polished and shiny is the perfect way to relax before every single shift!
Just like us, MOSCOT can stake their claim to US roots. With over 100 years in the business and an undeniable New York personality, MOSCOT has built a worldwide reputation for truly iconic eyewear. Unmistakeably MOSCOT, each design evokes a downtown aesthetic that’s perfect for any city-lover.
In case you missed it, we recently interviewed Galih Richardson, one of Laird Hatters’ hat gurus. Founded in 2009, Laird Hatters has since made a name for itself in the London fashion scene and their creations have been showcased at London Fashion Week amongst others. Each hat is hand-crafted combining traditional British style with modern flair. Laird Hatters’ classic headwear is the perfect match for our original footwear.
